Joseph Edward Bowers, was born 21 Sep. 1878, to James Hassan and Mary Lippert. His birth name was Charles Augustine Hassan. His birth father died before he was born, and his mother shortly after his birth. He was put in an Orphenage along with his 4 brothers, John, James, Frank and William Hassan called St. Joseph Orphenage in Erie, Erie Co., PA. He was adopted at a very young age by Edward and Mary Arnholdt Bowers, and his name was changed to Joseph Edward Bowers. He stayed with his adopted parents until they both died, his father in 1911 and his mother in 1914.

He came to Portland, Or. and md. Bertha Mae Worthington 15 Oct. 1921 in Lake Oswego, Clackamas Co., OR. In 1922 their only child was born, which was my father, Howard Edward Bowers in Whichata, TX.
Joseph was a Hydrolic Engineer, and constructed damm's all over the United States. One that he is well known for is the Fort Peck Dam in Fort Peck, Valley Co., MT. Construction took place from 1933-1940 when it was completed.
Joseph and his family were in Portland, Or. by 1942 where he filled out a draft record for WWII, he was 63 years of age at that time.
Joseph died 2nd of July 1957 in Portland, Multnomah Co., OR. Leaving behind his wife Mrs. Bertha Mae Bowers, son Howard Edward Bowers, and granddaughter Irene Ann Bowers.
