He was put in an Orphenage along with his 4 brothers, John, James, Frank and William Hassan called St. Joseph Orphenage in Erie, Erie Co., PA. He was adopted at a very young age by Edward and Mary Arnholdt Bowers, and his name was changed to Joseph Edward Bowers. He stayed with his adopted parents until they both died, his father in 1911 and his mother in 1914.
