James A. McCune, 93, of Albany, IN, formerly of Dunkirk, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Monday April 2, 2012, while in the company of family members at Albany Health and Rehabilitation Center.

James was born in Winchester, IN on October 25,1918, a son of the late Delia (Cranfill) and Gola McCune.

He was a member of Mt. Tabor UMC, Dunkirk, IN, where he held several offices including Trustee.

He served in th U.S. Navy in WWII on board the USS Independence, performing night missions in the Pacific arena.

He was employed as a tool and die maker at Fisher Body of Marion, IN, retiring in 1981.

Jim was a member and past Exhalted Ruler Dunkirk Elks Lodge 1776 and Dunkirk American Legion Post 227, The Crown City Square Dancing Club of Dunkirk, and Ft. Wayne Air Stream Unit.

He was a 1936 graduate of Dunkirk High School.

He was an avid traveler and lover of music, having played in several bands, including the Indiana State Lions Band, The 38th Division Band of the Indiana National Guard, and The Tommy Phillips Orchestra of Dunkirk. He was a faithful "IU Hoosier Fan" but his greatest enjoyment was watching his great grandchildren play baseball, especially his great-grandson Tanner's success on the field.

Jim was known for his wonderful and captivating smile and was known to light up a room with it.

His soft-spoken demeanor and patience was loved by all who knew him.

He was the husband of Barbara (Vincent) McCune who survives him.

Jim is also survived by his son, Robert Paul "R.P" (wife Sandy) Mccune, of Omaha, NE, step son Bill (wife Yvonne) Barker, of Iron Station, NC; two step daughters, Sheri (husband, Jerry) Reynard, of DeSoto, and Soni (husband, Dennis) Wilson, of Redkey; two grandchildren, Michelle McCune of Kansas City, MO and Corey McCune (wife Gretchen) of Kansas City, MO; four step gradnchildren, Richelle Reynolds of Redkey, Alyssa Casey (husband,Jarred) of Las Vegas, NV, Derek Wilson (wife Angela)of Albany, and Andy Blount of Greenville, SC; five step great grandchildren, Hannah Patrick of Las Vegas,NV, Tanner Reynolds of Redkey, Hayleigh Wilson of Albany, Cameren Wilson of Albany, and Kenley Calvert of Redkey. Several nieces and nephews, including JoAnn Holbrook of Cowan, and Jean Warren of Union City, IN.

Jim was preceded in death by his first wife Elizabeth "Libby" Landon McCune, three brothers, Floyd, Howard, and Robert McCune; two sisters, Evelyn Shroyer and Lucille Knife.

Friends are invited to call 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday at MJS Mortuaries Dunkirk Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at MJS Mortuaries Dunkirk Chapel, Dunkirk, IN., with Pastor Randy Davis officiating.

Military graveside services will be conducted by Dunkirk
American Legion Post 227 in Gardens of Memory Cemetary Muncie, IN.
