Originally from Eau Claire, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1951, and was stationed in Miami, Fla., until 1955. He had resided on Amelia Island since 1963. He worked as an engineer at BellSouth; and after 39 years of service, he retired from the company. He was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a founding member of The Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and Hands and Hearts Association that is now known as the Nassau County Association for Retarded Citizens, or ARC. Throughout the years, he devoted himself to various positions within ARC until illness no longer allowed.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosemary Williamson Wathke; two sons, Kenneth Wathke Jr. (Fe) and Robert Wathke; two daughters, Mary Tremblay (Jeff) and Patricia Middleton (Tim); seven grandchildren, William Revis (Angel), Eric Revis, Brian Middleton (Kiley), Andrew Middleton, Janet Middleton, Mary Ann Wathke and Jennifer Wathke; five great-grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home, 1305 Atlantic Ave., Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25, at The Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Atlantic Ave., Fernandina Beach, Fla., with interment to follow at Bosque-Bello Cemetery in Fernandina Beach.
