SALINA —

Francis Leon Petitjean, 69, died on Tuesday (March 27, 2012) at the Veterans Hospital in Wichita.
Mr. Petitjean was born on May 29, 1942, in Salina to Francis Joseph and Genevieve Helen (Bealby) Petitjean. He was a teacher and principal, teaching in Severy, Vermillion, Kanopolis and Ellsworth. He was a principal in Delphos, McCracken, St. Joseph at Olpe, Clay Center and Longford.
He earned his bachelor's degree in 1970 and his master's degree in 1975 from Emporia State University. He also drove a truck for Van Wey Trucking and Johnson Trucking.
He was a veteran, serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969 as a Specialist 5. He was a member of the VFW Post in Emporia and a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity.
He is survived by three brothers, Mike and wife, Carol of Newton, Dan and wife, Sandra of Assaria, and Mark and wife, Janet of Brookville; one sister, Patricia Nelson and husband, Kenneth of Newman Grove, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St. in Salina. A vigil service will be at 6 p.m. today at the mortuary, with Fr. Peter O'Donnell officiating.
The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud St. in Salina, with Fr. Allen Scheer as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Brookville.
Memorials are suggested to the Petitjean Family Scholarship Fund at Emporia State University, to the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brookville, or to the Brookville Senior Center.
