Anna Catherine (Kirn) Larkin, 101, died at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper of natural causes. She was the sixth child of Mathias "Matt" and Mary Anna (Scobe) Kirn. Her parents, of Slovene-German descent, had immigrated to the United States from Austria. The family moved to Oklahoma in 1910 when her father purchased a farm near Wilburton. Because the family came down with a fever, which would occur every year, the farm was sold and they moved back to Rock Springs. On May 6, 1912, the family became citizens of the United States. In 1914, Matt Kirn homesteaded five miles east of Douglas and the family moved there the same year. Anna received her entire formal schooling at the Kirn School which was located over the hill north of her home. She had completed seventh grade when the school closed. Her father did not allow her to continue her education. Anna continued to reside at home and help her parents until 1928 when she went to work as a live-in housekeeper for Mr. and Mrs. John B. Tripeny in Casper. Shortly after this, her mother became ill and she returned to Douglas to care for her. On April 19, 1933, she married Miles J. Larkin in Glenrock. The couple first resided in Douglas and later moved to Casper. In April, 1939, they returned to Douglas, bought the lots on Jefferson Street and built their home there. This is where Anna resided until her death. Anna worked numerous places in Douglas and her yard was a place of beauty. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and John R. Pexton of Douglas; five step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; and three step-great-great grandchildren; nephews and nieces, Chuck Kern and Mary Ellen Werner of Douglas, Alice Jean Kirn of Lusk, Thomas M. Johnson of Denver, William E. Coleman Jr. of Alhambra, Calif., Donald D. Coleman of Irvine, Calif., and Ellamae Wilkinson of Eureka, Calif.; and cousins including Kathy Karpan and Antone Novak of Cheyenne. She was preceded in death by her father on April 28, 1953; her mother on July 10, 1965; her husband of 29 years on March 15, 1963; her sisters, Mary Coleman, Stephanie "Betty" Chamberlain, and Sophie Johnson; and her brothers, Martin Kirn, Matheas Kern, Joseph B. Kirn and Frank T. Kirn. (Information was obtained from her obituary in the Douglas Budget Oct. 1, 2008)
