The eldest son of organ and piano builder Adolf Reubke, Friedrich Julius Reubke was born in Hausneindorf, Germany, and died in Pillnitz near Dresden. A pupil of Franz Liszt, he is known primarily among concert organists on the basis of a single organ composition, Sonata on the 94th Psalm. His other surviving compositions are a trio for organ, and a scherzo, mazurka, and sonata for pianoforte.

In his 1971 doctoral thesis "Julius Reubke, Life and Works" (University of Minnesota), p. 132, Daniel Chorzempa states "There is no tombstone remaining". It is unclear whether a tombstone ever existed.
