Died - At his residence in Clarion, on August 22, 1879, Thomas West, in the 76th year of his age. Mr. West was born in Baltimore, March 1, 1804. In 1825 he came to this county and followed his trade as a potter. In selling his work he traveled over the greater part of this and adjoining counties and became well known to people. At the beginning of Judge Jenks' term, he was appointed court crier, a position he held at the time of his death. For twenty-five years he was a member of the Masonic brotherhood and nearly as long in Odd Fellowship. Both bodies turned out in attendance at his funeral. He was an aged but worthy and respected citizen. The esteem in which he was held was evinced by the large number of friends that followed his remains to their last resting place on Sunday last.
