Bertie Frances Crank, 90, went to be with the Lord Jan. 18, 2002.
Born in Wilson County, N.C., she resided in Norfolk for the past 70 years. She was an active member of Temple Baptist Church where she was a founding member and teacher of the Crusaders Bible Class. She was also a member of the Temple Tones, Baptist WMU, and church bowling league. Bertie served in the community with the Union Mission Ladies' Auxiliary, Hope Haven Children's Home and Meals on Wheels. She was the widow of A. Elmer Crank and was predeceased by her son, Walton A. Crank.
Surviving are her children, Louis H. Crank and wife Frances of Virginia Beach, Virgie L. Wakefield and husband Bob of Cape Cod, Mass., daughter-in-law, Pat M. Crank of Virginia Beach, B. Sue Vaughan of Huntington Beach, Calif., June C. Matal and husband Vince of Raleigh, N.C., Ella Mae Jones of Norfolk and Eugene F. Crank and wife JoAnne of Norfolk; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. A funeral will be held by the Rev. Mark Pullen Monday at 2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Union Mission, 120 Brooke Ave., Norfolk, VA 23510.
