NEWTON - Beatrice Rebecca Winters Pickens, 85, of Seventh Avenue, SW, Conover, died Jan. 22, 1998, at Catawba Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 5, 1912, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late George Luther and Beatrice A. Gantt Winters.
A member of First United Methodist Church, she retired as an elementary teacher with the Newton-Conover City School System. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Woodrow Winters, Lester Winters and Sam Winters.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie Eugene Pickens; two daughters, Beatrice Ann Sherrill of Newton and Mary-Jean Hollar of Conover; and three grandchildren, Tammy Hollar, Edward Hollar, and Allen Sherrill.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Kerry Fralic and Dixon Adams at 2 p.m. Sunday at her church. Burial will be in the Claremont Cemetery. The family will be at Willis Reynolds Funeral Home from 6 to 8 tonight.
