March 12, 1954 - March 8, 2012
ELKHART - Scott A. Woody, 57, of Elkhart, passed away early Thursday morning, March 8, 2012, at home after an apparent heart attack. He was born in Marion on March 12, 1954, to Louis A. and Carol A. (Craig) Woody. Scott is survived by his wife, Patrice, and their sons, David A. Woody and Jason A. Woody, both of Elkhart; his son, Chris A. (Annette Shaw) Woody of Marion; father, Lou Woody of Marion; and David's girlfriend, Megan Cikara of Chicago; sister, Deborah (Bruce) May of Indianapolis; and brother, Jeff A. (Heather) Woody of Kokomo. Sister-in-law, Susan Saunders of Hilliard, OH, and brother-in-law, John W. (Carol) McCollum of San Antonio, survive as well. He was known as "Uncle Scott" to 10 nieces, nephews and their families. Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Carol (1964); mom, Joyce E. Woody (2002); mother and father-in-law, Melvin and Ruth McCollum (2011); his grandparents, aunts and uncles. Scott was employed at Gates Chevrolet in Mishawaka for more than 30 years. He was the first service technician to earn GM Master Technician status at Gates, an award received several other times through the years. Scott was extremely knowledgeable and willing to share his expertise with others. Scott loved being with his family and friends, fishing the big lakes or deer hunting. He enjoyed watching auto racing, college football and basketball. Scott liked to cook, with many having enjoyed "Dad's world famous blueberry pancakes" or his smoked brisket and ribs. A Celebration of Life service for Scott will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren, 24955 CR 24, Elkhart, IN 46517. Pastor Dan Brenneman will officiate. At his request, cremation has taken place at Altera Cremation Service under the direction of Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Scott's name to The Indiana Natural Resources Foundation, 402 W. Washington St., W256, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
