From The Copper City Advance, dated February 18, 1954:

A.B. (Buck) McCay, prominent Copperhill insurance man, died unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, following a heart attack. His age was 37. A native of Copperhill, he was at the son of the late A.B. McCay and Mrs. McCay. By an odd coincidence, his father also was a victim of a heart seizure, dying while playing softball in the summer of 1937.

Widely know throughout the area simply as Buck, the younger McCay was graduated from Copperhill High School and had completed two years of study at North Georgia College when his father died. He returned to his home to take over the insurance agency which bore his father's name. At the time, he was the youngest insurance agent in the United States, becoming 21 years old the moth after his father's passing.

When this country entered World War II, Mr. McCay made repeated attempts to enlist, and finally was accepted for service by the Army Air Force. Because of his eyesight, he was classified limited service for duty in the states solely. However, he managed to get this classification changed in order to see overseas service with his fellow soldiers.

Since the war he had been active in local affairs, serving one term as a city councilman. He also was identified with various groups, holding membership in the First Methodist Church, the American Legion, Copperhill Lodge F. & A. M., McCay Chapter R. A. M., and Blue Ridge Mountain Commandery.

Mr. McCay is survived by his wife, the former Miss Agnes Patterson, to whom he was married five years ago this month; a son, Byron Lee, 4, and a daughter, Mary Ann, 1; his mother Mrs. A. B. McCay, Sr.; two sisters, Mrs. D. R. Wagner and Mrs Roy Kincaid, and a nephew, all of the Basin.

Funeral services are to be conducted by Rev. Glenn E. Boye at the First Methodist Church this afternoon at two o'clock. The body will remain at Finch Funeral Home until one o'clock, at which time it will be placed in the church to lie in state until the final rites begin.

Internment is to be in the Crestlawn Cemetery under the direction of Finch Funeral Home.
