BURL E. BONNELL

December 10, 1921 to April 7, 2004

WINAMAC - Burl E. Bonnell, 82, 3897 S 225 E, Star City, died at 2:39 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, at Pulaski Health Care Center.

He was born Dec. 10, 1921 in Pulaski County, the son of Lester D. and Zoa A. Poor Bonnell. He married Zela M. Sutton on Aug. 9, 1942 in Pulaski County. She died Aug. 27, 1990. He then married Helen M. Baker Bonnell on June 1, 1992 in Montrose County. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Randall (Robin) Bonnell of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Chad (Leslie) Bonnell of Parker, Colo., Shannon Bonnell of Denver, Colo., and Anya Bonnell of Tucson; two step-sons, Leland (Megan) Bonnell of Warrensville, Ill. and Kim (Maria) Bonnell of Winamac; a step-daughter, Janice (Tim) Hoffman of Fishers; four step-grandchildren, Ed (Jill) Bonnell of Zionsville, Becky (Jason) Walters of Granger, Jessica Bonnell of Winamac and Jennifer Bonnell of Winamac; one great-grandchild, three step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Bonnell and Gary Bonnell, and four brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Bonnell was the retired owner of Bonnell Flower Shop in Winamac, which he founded in the mid-1950s and operated until his retirement in 1986. He was a 1940 graduate of Star City High School, and served in the U.S. Army Corps during World War II. He was a crew chief in North Africa during the war.

He was a former member of the Winamac Volunteer Fire Dept., and formerly served on the Eastern Pulaski Community Schools board of trustees. He was also a member of the Winamac Chamber of Commerce.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Winamac. He was also a member of Eagles No. 2580, Masnoic Lodge No. 262 F&AM, and South Bend Scottish Rite. He was past commander and a 55-year member of the American Legion Post No. 71, and the VFW Post No. 1728.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday; and after 8 a.m., Saturday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Masonic services was at 7 p.m., Friday, at the mortuary. The funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Saturday (April 10), at the mortuary. Rev. Gene Ansell and Pastor Lyle Knebel officiated. Burial will be in Winamac Cemetery. Military graveside services were conducted by the Americn Legion and VFW.

Memorial donations may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Winamac, or the church's Relay for Life team.
