CONOVER - Helen Enola Huffman Wike, 91, of Wike Road, Catawba, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at her residence. Born Nov. 25, 1911, in Hickory, she was the daughter of the late Gamesville E. and Alice Elizabeth Sigmon Huffman.
She retired from Catawba Elementary School as an elementary school teacher. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Catawba, where she served on various church groups and committees. She was also a member of NEA and NCAE.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Neil Wike, and four sisters, Gracie Sigmon, Faye Eckard, Mona Stapf and Claudia Smyre.
Survivors include a daughter, Alice Elizabeth Wike Williams of Catawba, and a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Neil Wike and wife, Celia J. Tucker Wike, of Catawba.
A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover. The Rev. Greg Alms will officiate and burial will follow in St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont. Pallbearers will be Ronny Brown, Carroll Yount, Johnny Sigmon, Tim Eckard, Steve Wike and Johnny Wesson. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
