Daniel ppl enrolled with Capt William S P Garvin 142 Inf Co I of the Union Army at Pierrepont as a Pvt on 30 Aug 1862 (his name is recorded as Daniel "Cecratus" Reed) He mustered in 29 Sep 1862. On or about 29 Sep 1864 was taken prisoner of war near Chaffin's farm in Henrico Co, VA, USA. He was transfered to the Confederate Prisoner of War Camp a converted factory called "Libby Prison" at Richmond, VA, USA. He became deathly ill and was removed to the Confederate Prison Hospital at Salisbury, Rowan, NC, USA. He died of Dysentery on 4 Feb 1865 and was buried the next day in one of the trenches dug for mass burial at the hospital.


Daniel married 08 Nov 1846 Pierrepont, St Lawrence, New York, USA to Irena Amanda Majors "aka Amanda," daughter of George S Majors Jr and Abigail Bellows. Irena was born Abt. 1819 probably in Fairfax, Franklin, Vermont, USA where her parents lived at the time. She died 10 Jul 1890 Potsdam, St Lawrence, New York, USA
