James Kidder (jr?) was born to James Kidder (sr? b.1595, d.1684) in East Grinstead, England in 1626. James Kidder was in Cambridge MA in 1649. He and Anna, his wife, were members at the Cambridge church in Full Communion. In 1655, James occupied a farm of 289 acres which was situated in what is now East Cambridge. They settled in Billerica MA about 1659, and were charter members of the church there.

In Dec, 1661, James signed the Billerica Compact; served as a Juror at Cambridge in 1662; made Sargent of Military Compound at Billerica in 1662; and, in 1675, was Sargent in the militia during King Philip's War. In this responsibility, he kept guard over a small tribe of Indians at Wamesit, now a part of Lowell, and was, afterward, in command of a garrison house containing seven families, including his own.
