Ruth Stewart Pace, 81, of Mountain Page Road in Saluda, one of God's saints, was called home Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at Autumn Care after a long illness.

She was born June 24, 1922, to the late Henry Luther Stewart and Emma Ward Stewart. A lifelong resident of Henderson County, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Fred Pace, who died in 2001; brothers Horace Guy, Ray and Rex Stewart; and sisters Josephine Cartee and Lucille Laughter.

She was well known for her gardening, canning, cooking, sewing and most of all that she was a hard worker on the farm. She worked in the apple orchard beside her husband, Ken, doing whatever had to be done on the farm. She will be missed, but she is in a much better place now.

As a member of Mountain Page Baptist Church of Saluda, she loved to talk about the good old days. She loved her church and loved to talk about how her husband, Ken, worked so hard there helping build the church all those many years.

Surviving her are three sons, Larry Pace, Jerry Pace and his wife, Diane, and Lynn Pace and his wife, Jackie, all of Saluda; two daughters, Sandra Pace and Janice Russell and her husband, John, all of Saluda; 10 loving grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, all who loved her so much.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain Page Baptist Church. The Revs. Walter Gordon, Raymond Byrd, Dan Holbert, George Hamer and Ray Koterba will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. this evening at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors in Hendersonville. All other times, they will be at the family home at 346 Mountain Page Road.
