From Wendy:
GEORGE E. HICKS, member Wauconda post, No. 368, G.A.R., Wauconda, Ill., died yesterday at the age of 78. He was born at Whittingham, Vt., coming to Chicago in 1857. In 1862 he enlisted in Company A., Fifty-first regiment, Illinois infantry, and was in the army of the Cumberland under Gen. W. S. Rosecrans. He was taken prisoner at Chickamauga and served sixteen months in Libby, Danville, Florence, and Andersonville prisons.
==============================================
George was the 4th child of Joseph and Lucinda (Ballou) Hicks.
Joseph was living in Wauconda 1850.

I have siblings listed as:
Emma abt 1832 d. 1852
Lysander 1834 1836
Cassandra Lucinda 1836-
William Lysander 1840 1926
Mary Louise 1844 (m. Oscar Whitcomb)

George's mother died in 1845 and George is seen living with an uncle in 1850 in VT. Although the obit states George was a native of Vt, I believe he may have been born in Monroe, MA where his siblings were also born.

I know of 3 children for Mary & George Hicks, Alta, Erma & Ada. Ada was very close to my grandmother & a very nice person. I do not know where Ada and Arthur Jacobus are buried.

George's obit may have come from the Barrington Review but not certain of this:
2/22/1917 Geo. Hicks
Geo. H. Hicks, civil war veteran and member of Wauconda post 368? G.A.R. died on Sunday morning, February 18, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Ada) Jacobus, Chicago, aged seventy eight years.

Mr. Hicks was a native of Whitingham, Vermont, but for most of his life had been a respected citizen of this village. His wife, a daughter of John Pratt, died many years ago, also the oldest daughter, Miss Alta.

Two daughters survive; Mrs. V.D. Kimball of this place and Mrs. Jacobus of Chicago; four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mary Whitcomb of Chicago; one brother, William Hicks formerly of Palatine, who is ill in Florida.
Short services were held in Chicago on Tuesday afternoon, with services here Wednesday morning. Interment was in the Wauconda cemetery.

George's sister, Mary, married Oscar Whitcomb...both are buried in Wauconda Cemetery.
