He was a member of the American Legion Post #112 and was an avid fisherman and a NASCAR fan.
He is survived by three sons Ronald Tankersley and wife Faith of Atlanta; James Tankersley Jr. and wife Amy of North Charleston and William Eric Tankersley of North Charleston; grandson Ian of Atlanta and great-grandson Jacob.
