Albertina C. "Tina" Breier passed away on Thursday Feb. 23, 2012, at Upland Hills Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Dodgeville.

She was the first born child of Theodore and Cornelia Vander Velden of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on June 22, 1919. She had four brothers and three sisters and lived through World War II when her country was occupied by the Nazis. Tina began working at age 15 as a secretary for 22 years. She reached the top in her business office where she was a stenographer in four languages; the last mainly in French.

She met her future husband, Harald Breier, who had just started his education to become a doctor. She helped him through his years of training and made it possible for him to follow his dream of practicing medicine in the United States. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1957 to Madison and after a year settled in Montfort.

For many years Tina was knitting and crocheting instructor at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore which she enjoyed immensely. She prided herself in her gardening especially growing Dutch bulb flowers. She loved singing with different choruses (Homemakers, Wisconsin Friendship) and church choirs. Tina made three concert tours with the Wisconsin Friendship Chorus, singing and delighting audiences in at least 12 European countries. She also attended for FCE National Conventions where the chorus also presented concerts. For eight years Tina cared for her husband, Harald, after he retired prior to his death.

Tina was preceded in death by her parents both in Amsterdam, Holland; her husband, Harald on Oct. 14, 2000; her brothers, Joe, Theo, Han and Albert; and her sisters, Mia, Corrie and Tosca.

She is survived by her son; four special grandchildren, and her sister-in-law. She is also survived by a countless number of friends including her special care-givers, Donna, Lois and Judie.

A Mass of Celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at ST. THOMAS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Montfort, with Father Ken Frisch as celebrant.

Burial will follow at the St. Thomas Catholic Church Cemetery in Montfort.

A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Monday morning Feb. 27, 2012, at the SOMAN-LARSON FUNERAL HOME in Montfort.

Memorials on behalf of Tina Breier may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church, Hospice of Iowa County or a charity of your choice.
