Innovator of the familiar searchlights used in advertising Hollywood movie premieres and a leading figure in the formulation of the Hollywood Blvd. Christmas Parade. He was also Postmaster of Los Angeles from 1954-1963. He was very active in Hollywood civic and business groups being the Director of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Hollywood Bowl Easter sunrise services. He founded and developed the lighting and sound products firm bearing his name in the use of searchlights at movie premieres, market openings, and at automobile dealerships when the new models premiered. Olesen claimed that at a movie premiere in San Bernardino in the year 1928 the searchlights were visible in Hollywood, over 65 miles away. He had charge of premieres over the entire state of California and of all he considered "The King of Kings" which opened at Grauman's Chinese Theater, his best bit of work. King Christian X awarded him Denmark's Freedom Medal for his efforts to promote good will between Denmark and the U.S. and he received a Treasury Medal for fund raising activities during World War II. He was at one time head of the 233 Club, a Masonic degree team that performed ritual degrees all over the state, the members being associated with the movie industry. His retirement luncheon was attended by nearly 1000 public officials, civic leaders and friends.
