Mervin T. Martz, 82, of Mayport, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Brookville Hospital.

Born October 27, 1929 in Worthville, he was the son of Benjamin Franklin and Nellie J. Richards Martz.

Mr. Martz was a 1947 graduate of Punxsutawney High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On June 2, 1961, he married Shirley M. Smith in Strattanville. She survives.

Mr. Martz worked as a mechanic for Ringgold Equipment in Ringgold for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his nine children, Michael Martz and his wife, Betty, of Houston, Texas, Terry Lee Smith and his wife, Pamela, of Mayport, Larry Allen Martz and his wife, Penny, of Mayport, Debbie Love Anthony and her husband, Charlie, of Strattanville, Wanda Leigh Shoup and her husband, Donald, of Mayport, Sherrie Martz of Pittsburgh, Pamela Jean Blake and her husband, Mark, of New Bethlehem, Patricia Ann Magagnotti and William of New Bethlehem, and Peggy Lou Martz Anderson of New Bethlehem; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Martz was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Martz.

Friends will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 24, at the Ringgold United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Joan L. Rousseaux officiating.

Interment will be in the Worthville Cemetery.

Arrangements are at the direction of the Furlong Funeral Home in Summerville.
