George A. Abbott, 76, of Assonet died Feb. 12, 2012, in St. Annes Hospital, Fall River. He was the husband of Barbara R. (Banks) Abbott. Son of the late Herbert C. and Estelle (McLean) Abbott, he was born in Medford and lived in Missouri, Brockton and Taunton before moving to Assonet. Mr. Abbott served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Air Force. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Abbott worked in the maintenance department at the Easton Housing Authority for many years. After retiring, he worked as a custodian at the United Parish in Fall River. He was a member of the Freetown Memorial V.F.W. Post 6643 in Freetown. Survivors include his widow, Barbara R. (Banks) Abbott, owner of Abbotts Barber Shop in Taunton; a son, Mark Abbott; a daughter, LeAnne Abbott, both of Missouri; two sisters, Margaret Guiod and her husband Joe of Milford and Nancy McGovern of Stoughton; a grandson, Chris Melvin; a great-granddaughter, Trinity Melvin, both of Missouri.
