Nelson Houston Leake, 69, of Harrisonburg, passed away Friday February 17, 2012, at his home.

Nelson was born on November 28, 1942 in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late Arthur Moody and Elsie Virginia Sites Leake.

Nelson was a lifetime resident of the area. He was a Sergeant in the Virginia National Guard for 23 years, and worked for the City of Harrisonburg in the Water Department for 33 years. He was a student of Martial Arts at Halterman Karate, and enjoyed playing Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny at various events. He was also a member of Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle Church.

On November 20, 1964, he married Carolyn Faye Keller Leake, who survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Nelson Scott Leake and wife Dana of Keezletown, and Shawn K. Leake and wife Rachel, of Weyers Cave; five grandchildren; Miranda Coffey, Kristofer Leake, Lyndsie Leake, Matthew Sprouse and Brittany Sprouse, one great grandchild on the way; a brother, Harold Leake, of Elkton; and sisters, Nancy Derrow, of Harrisonburg, and Patsy Grimsley, of Stanley.

A funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, February 21, 2012, at Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Elkton, with Pastor Ron Spencer and Homer Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 8 pm Monday evening at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
