Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Nate Magloughlin officiating and Dr. Carey Skinner assisting. Military honors by DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.
Mr. Barrett attended Texas A&M University and graduated from West Texas State University. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
Elmo retired from Amarillo Bi-City Health Department after 18 years service. He was a member at Trinity Baptist Church and served as a deacon since 1982.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Ziegler Barrett; a brother, Landon Barrett; and two sisters, Anita Anderson and Juanita Crownover.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie Sue Barrett; a daughter, Starla Ross and husband Scott; two stepdaughters, Charlotte Goebel and husband Doyle and Gail LaFavers and husband David; a stepson, Curtis Nazworth and wife Daphne; two grandchildren, Dan and Jonathan Ross; seven stepgrandchildren, Lauren Snyder and husband Russell, Adrian Goebel, Sam Nazworth, Megan Nazworth, Taylor Bixler and wife Jen, Grey Bixler and Kate Thomas.
The family suggests memorials be to Trinity Baptist Church, 1601 W. Interstate 40, Amarillo, TX 79109.
