Ladislaus "Walter" Matyczynski, 90, passed peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2012. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and caring friends. He is predeceased by his brother, John Matyczynski; sisters: Florence Sheehan, Helen Lapointe and Regina Misiuk all of Worcester. Ladislaus was born in Worcester, a son of Stanislaus and Sophie (Weglarska) Matyczynski.

In 1939 at age 18, Mr. Matyczynski enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard. He served less than 7 months and was honorably discharged to pursue enlistment with the United States Marine Corps. He served his country in conflicts throughout the European Theater, Volcano Islands and Iwo Jima. Honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1946, he remained a Marine for the duration of his life and was a true patriot, forever flying the Red, White and Blue proudly in front of his home.

Walter retired after 30 years as a machinist from the General Motors Oldsmobile Division in Lansing, MI. He was an avid sportsman, a lifetime member of the NRA and very competitive in muzzle loading tournaments. He enjoyed his retirement, traveling and was fond of cruising. He also held a license to pilot small aircraft.
