CECIL - Ezra Lee Zeigler, 82, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Heritage House Nursing Home in Valdosta. Mr. Zeigler was born July 26, 1921, in Pavo. He was the son of the late Herbert and Lula Glass Zeigler. He had been in construction all his life and involved in many major building projects in the Valdosta, Southern Georgia and Northern Florida areas. Family history was one of his first loves and his hobby. In his early years, he became interested in genealogy that in time, produced a family book in 1980 of the Zeigler families in South Georgia. Camping was another of his favorite pastimes. He was a past councilman of Cecil and, in the most recent years, served the town of Cecil in the water department, was devoted to the Cecil VFD and in helping others in his community. Mr. Zeigler was a member of the CCC Camp in Homerville. He was also a veteran of World War II, serving his country as a propeller specialist with the Second Army Aircraft Repair Unit Floating aboard the USAAFSS Rebecca Lukens, later recommissioned as the USAAFSS Major General Herbert A. Dargue. His service medals include the WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the American Service Medal. He was given an honorable discharge as staff sergeant in 1946. Mr. Zeigler was a member of the VFW Post #5974 in Adel. Mr. Zeigler was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law, Sam Tison and L.D. Cummings, brother Jacob Zeigler, sister-in-law, Anne Zeigler. - Martin McLane Funeral Home.
