DERIDDER - Services for Myron Leland McWhirter will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Beauregard-Vernon with the Revs. Billy Harper and Paul Douglas McWhirter officiating. Burial will be in Lewis Cemetery.

McWhirter, 70, of DeRidder died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, in Beauregard Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Geraldine, Mont., and grew up in the DeQuincy and Ragley area. He was a retired welder who was employed at Crosby Chemicals and also worked in the construction and shipbuilding industry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as an ammo specialist during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 27 in DeRidder.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Farris McWhirter of DeRidder; three sons, Winczel D. McWhirter of Turkey Creek, Marek Leland McWhirter of Pine Prairie and Rodney B. Burgess of DeRidder; four daughters, Sandra Sanders, Shelia Daniels, Rhonda Tilley and Meredith McWhirter, all of DeRidder; four brothers, John Dodgen of Harvey, Delbert Urman McWhirter of Mauriceville, Texas, Paul McWhirter of Harlowton, Mont., and Charles Woodroe McWhirter of Ragley; and one sister, Erlyn Johnson of Cheneyville.

Friends may call from noon until 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until time of services Friday in the funeral home.

My husband Myron McWhirter born 4/6/29 just passed away

I know very little about his family, but I would wager that they may be related. He had a first marriage to Wanda Unknown.
