Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Winterrowd Funeral Home in Streator with the Rev. Mark Canada of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Streator with full military honors. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Mr. Council was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Ottawa, to John and Esther (Brickert) Council. He married Mary Morlan on June 5, 1949.
He served in the Army as a motor division sergeant during the Korean conflict and was retired from Streator Truck Lines and INS in Morris.
He was a member of Streator VFW Post 1492 and Grace United Methodist Church. He attended school in Cornell.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Joan (Hugh) Brems of Geneva, Jane (Mike) McGraw of Bartlett and Jeri Lynn (John) Roach of Streator; a son, Jack (Rosemary) of Streator; a brother, James (Joyce) of Patoka, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Byron John in infancy; two brothers, Robert and Ralph; and a sister, Betty Strodtman.
