Elvin Ellsworth Leonard,90,Holstein,died Tuesday,March 9,while splitting wood on the family farm.Services will be 1p.m.today,March 12,at United Methodist Church in Holstein,with Rev.Todd Schlitter officiating.Burial in Holstein Cemetery.Elvin was born June 3,1913,to Hiram & Christina(Schroeder)Leonard,on farm where he and his beloved wife raised their family,Holstein,Iowa.He married Irene Helkenn on Feb.13,1935.Enjoyed 69 wonderful years.He was gentle man who left a legacy of service to his family,community.loved the land,working outside,was one of the area's frist conservation advocates.Prominant man in the community,always generous with his time.He began his serve on the county Rationing board during World War II and with the ASCS County board.Elected county supervisor and held that for 22 years.Member of United Methodist Church,many offices,Sunday School superintandent.He received the Silver Beaver Award for years of service to the Boy Scouts,Community activities include,chairman of Holstein Centennial committee,Good Samaritan Home Advisory board,Red Cross volunteer,Ida Sheltered Industries,Kiwanis and build and maintain the Holstein Country Club.His early cribbage games with friend.Enjoyed working outside with his chain saw.Survivors,his beloved wife;six children,David,Gary & Mary Ann,Jurt & Maren,Christine Wiese,Irene & Phil Richardson,John & Susan;16 grandchildren;17 great-grandchildren;sister,Mary Conover;three brothers,Maurice & Lillian,George & Dee,Bill & Gloria.He preceded in death by his parents;a sister;four brothers;grandson.
