Princess. Marie Sophie Hélène Béatrice de France, daughter of King Louis XVI of France and his wife Queen Marie Antoinette, was born at the Palace of Versailles. She was the youngest of their four children and had been named after her great-aunt, Sophie de France, daughter of Louis XV. Her siblings were Marie Thérèse; Louis Joseph, Dauphin; and Louis Charles, future Louis XVII. She died after five or six days of convulsions, before she had reached her first birthday. The princess was buried at the Royal Basilica of Saint Denis. A painting of the royal family, including the queen and her four children, had been commissioned and completed in 1787. After Sophie's death, her likeness was painted out of the family portrait.
