WHITEVILLE -- William Lee Barkley, 47, of 216 E. Webster St., Whiteville, died Monday at his residence. He was born in Columbus Co., the son of the late John M. and Jessie Beckham Barkley. He was employed with the N.C. Dept. of Transportation for 20 1/2 years until his retirement. He was a member of Whiteville United Methodist Church, a 1965 graduate of Whiteville High School, and attended Columbia Business School.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Whiteville United Methodist Church by Dr. Homer Morris. Interment will be in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Long Barkley; a son, Joshua Lee Barkley of the home; two brothers, John Gayle Barkley of Whiteville and Freddie Barkley of Marion, S.C.
Serving as pallbearers will be Buster Carter, Edward Dvis, junior McKeel, Freddie Edwards, Bob Young and Bill Ashley.
The Family will receive friends Tuesday, 7-9 p.m., at Peacock's chapel in the Pines.
