Florence -- Dr. Clayton Scott McKinnon, 40, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in Central United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
He was born in Virginia, a son of Gerry McKinnon and the late William T. McKinnon Jr. He graduated from James F. Byrnes Academy, Francis Marion University and the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. He was the owner and veterinarian at Companion Veterinary Care Center.
He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians, the Pee Dee Veterinary Medical Association, and was the Chairman of the Board of Veterinary Examiners for the State of South Carolina. He was also a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Florence Rotary Club.
Surviving, in addition to his mother of Surfside Beach, are his wife, Karen Cox McKinnon of Florence; two stepchildren, Cecil Edward "Trey" Floyd III and Martha Floyd; his brother, William T. (Connie) McKinnon Jr. of Charleston; and a niece, Cassie McKinnon of Charleston.
