Samuel Bacot came to the Darlngton District in 1769. His grandfather, Pierre Bacot, was a native of Rochelle, France. Pierre fled from France with other Huguenots in 1964 to Charles-town, SC.

p.30, 31 of manuscript "A short History of the Brownson-Brunson-Bronson Families by Martha McBee Brunson Florence, SC. Dedicated to the Memory and Patriotism of Matthew Brunson One of Marion's Men" Killed in a Skirmish with Tories in Clarendon, Co SC 1781,January."... Captain Samuel Bacot is buried in the old family burial grown on his plantation near Darlington. A neat monument marks his grave. On it is inscribed the name and dates, the account of his services in the Revolutionary War, also name of his wife and dates of her birth and death. She had died some years before of erysipelas, and was buried across the creek where they first lived. It was winter and it was intended to have her body carried to Georgetown for burial in the Allston family plot. Therefore her (Sarah Margaret Allston Bacot) grave was lost in time. Prince, the faithful man's servant, sleeps at the foot of his master, and his name and record is also on the monument."

A native of Charleston, SC and in the latter part of his life a citizen of Darlington, where he died in the 51st year of his age A.D. 1795.
