Charles Francis Shearer was born April 23, 1924 in Spokane, and passed peacefully Nov. 1, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice, son Dean (Linda), and daughters Susan Shearer and Carol Dillon (Bruce). He was preceded in death by son Clark. He had 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Charlie was a member of 96th Infantry Division during WWII, landing in the third wave on both Leyte, P.I. and Okinawa. He received his BA and MA in ED from EWCE and principal's credentials from U of W. He was band director in Kent-Meridian HS, Director of Cleveland HS Band, Seattle, and Seattle All-City Honor Band. He became Vice Principal Franklin HS Seattle and Vice Principl Sequoia Jr HS, Kent. Family, church and band music was his life. He was an active Mason: Past Master, Past High Priest Royal Arch Masons, Member Scottish Rite Masons, KCCH, Knights Templar and Royal Order of Scotland. He was elected to receive Scottish Rite 33rd degree. A member of Afifi Shrine, he played cornet in the band. Until recently, he was a member in the Tacoma Elks Band. Charlie had an inquiring mind, continuing to study and learn. He was always interested in working on one of his hobbies, amateur radio (K7PJR), wood working, model railroads, restoring antique cars, and gardening. There will be an interment service for family at Tahoma National Cemetery. His memorial service will be held at Skyline Presbyterian Church, 6301 Westgate Blvd., Tacoma, November 10, 2011, 11:00 a.m. Donations suggested to Afifi Shrine Transportation Fund, 815 S. Vassault St., Tacoma 98465.
