Oscar Thomas Warren, 98, of Shenandoah, passed away, Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Life Care Center in New Market.

Mr. Warren was born November 3, 1913 in Southhampton County, VA to the late Willie Thomas and Annie Ellsworth Warren.

Mr. Warren came to the Valley and worked in the CC camps helping to build the Skyline Drive, and had previously worked for Karnes Coal & Ice in Shenandoah, and then for Potomac Edison Power Company until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, where he was Sunday school superintendent for 40 years, a member of Gideon International, and former Shenandoah town council member.

On June 13, 1936, he married Ruth Cook Warren who preceded him in death on June 16, 2007. Survivors include a son, Buddy Warren and wife, Karin of Shenandoah; a daughter, Annie Leigh Pierce and husband, Richard of Shenandoah; two brothers, John Dudley Warren of Shenandoah, Willie Thomas Warren, Jr. of Smithfield, VA; a sister, Evie Nicol of Spring Grove, VA; four grandchildren, Melodie White, Tim Morris, Thom Warren and Michele Warren McCoy; and ten great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Hettie Gertrude Burgess, Mildred Ellsworth Babb, a brother, James Albert Warren, and step-mother, Isabele Morris Warren.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah with Rev. Stephen Creech officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7~8 at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
