Mr. Hensley was a son of the late Emmett and Florence Watson Hensley, of Elkton, where he was also born on May 1, 1934.
He became a skilled repairman and concentrated on fixing refrigerators, washers and a variety of mechanical and electrical appliances. Larry previously was employed with Armentrout Refrigeration, Steel's Appliance, Harry's T.V & Appliance, and Denton's Appliance. He found enjoyment while fishing, watching baseball (Atlanta Braves), playing the guitar, and spending time with grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his companion, are three sons, Walden W. Harman of Harrisonburg, Eugene "Dale" Harman and wife, Della of Roanoke, and Larry W. Cook and wife, Sarah of Mt. Crawford; one daughter, Lorena "Faye" Harman of Pierre Part, LA; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Everett R. Hensley of Harrisonburg and Mensel L. Hensley of Penn Laird; four sisters, Mildred Gibson of Harrisonburg, Zelda Gibson of Staunton; Maxine Schreckise of Weyers Cave and Jeroline Mercer of Texas and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by 2 children, Karen D. Harman and Kenneth A. Harman and 7 siblings, Odis Hensley, Kenneth Hensley, Sherley Hensley, Norman Hensley, Lonnie Hensley, Myrtle Hammer, and Rosie Armentrout.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening (tonight) from 6:30-8:00pm at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Thursday, February 2, 2011 at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, officiated by the Pastors of the First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
