KINGSPORT- James Rudolph Johnson passed away at his home on January 26, 2012.

He was a retired employee of Holston Defense Corporation and a World War II veteran. Rudolph was a faithful member of the First Freewill Church of Church Hill. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Andy and Mamie Johnson and his sisters Edith Carr and her husband Charles Carr, and Jean Fulkerson and her husband Bob, and one brother Roy Johnson and sister-in-law Eilene Johnson, step brother Billy Williams and step mother Mae Johnson.

Rudolph is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bertie Repass Johnson, one son Lt. Col. Gregory A. Johnson and wife Jennifer of Tucson, Arizona, daughter Robyn Ringley of Kingsport, Tennessee, sister Erma Bray of Kingsport, Tennessee, one brother Russell Johnson of Weber City, Virginia, seven grandchildren, Levi Ringley, and Megan Barnett of Kingsport, Tennessee, Tyler Johnson, Alexis Johnson, and Talia Johnson of Tucson, Arizona, and two step-grandchildren, Sadie Parker and Raymond Parker of Tucson, Arizona. Special friends, Chick and Wanda Tate, who were there so much for Rudolph through his illness, Doug Thacker who was a second son to him.

Calling hours are Sunday, January 29, from 5-7pm at First Freewill Church of Church Hill with

Funeral services will be conducted at 7pm with Rev. Derrick Bell and Rev. Mitch Russell officiating, eulogy by grandson Tyler Johnson and Son Gregory Johnson, special music by Jamie Lane, Melissa Taylor, Amy Vaughn, Brook Fisher, and Misty Venett.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday, January 30 at 11:00 A.M. at Church Hill Memory Gardens with Military honors conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard and Tennessee National Guard.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Johnson, Levi Ringley, Robert Barnett, Doug Thacker, Lynn Norris, and Chick Tate. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Dye, H.K. Stapleton, Max Hammond, Bobby Mullins, Shorty Alley, and Jim Boggs.

Those who wish to may make a memorial contribution, may do so to the Gideons.

The memorial he leaves behind is one of love, joy, and laughter which he brought into the lives of those he touched.

Thank you to Amedisy's Hospice Services for the incredibly loving care provided. A special thank you to his nurses Brook Fischer and Sheila Loyd for the respect and dignity provided to Rudolph as he prepared for his Lord, they were outstanding!
