Walter Robert "Jerry" Dana, age 78, passed away January 25, 2012. He was born October 19, 1933 in Craig, Colorado to Pat Carroll and Ferne Thelma Dana. Walter served in the U. S. Marines as Sergeant serving in the Korean Conflict in 1953, receiving the Purple Heart.

He was a longtime resident of San Antonio, Texas prior to moving to Mathis. Walter worked for 30 years in the fabrication of prosthetic devices, he had a degree in law enforcement and served as deputy constable Pct. 2 in San Antonio for 13 years. After his move to Mathis in 1997 he served 5 years as Lake City Marshal.

He was an Endowed Member and past Master of both Kelly Lodge 1131 and Mathis Lodge 1133, a 32 Degree Scottish Rite, member of Al Amin Shrine, member of Order of the Eastern Star Harlandale Chapter #750 and Mathis #874, life member of Mathis VFW Post 3079, member of DAV in San Antonio, life member of Texas Rifle Association and member of the First Baptist Church in Mathis.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years; two daughters; one son; 3 grandchildren; 2 step-granddaughters; 17 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and very special sister-in-law; his chihuahua and poodle.

Visitation will begin Friday January 27, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. with the family present between 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be Saturday January 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m at Dobie Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Stehle officiating. Masonic graveside and military services will follow in Cenizo Hill Cemetery. Members of the Masonic Lodge will be pallbearers.
Charolette "Sinclair" Valette Dana was his wife. But Charolette was not buried here with him. She was cremated.
