Joseph Edward Adams was born in Johnston County on October 30, 1927 to the late John Quincy and Mancy Lee Adams. He was also preceded in death by two brothers: James Woodrow Adams (Memorial# 100680315)and William Pinkney Adams (Memorial# 100680315).
He served in the U. S. Air Force for three years, and after working for the federal government for a short period of time, he attended the New England School of Theology in preparation for a career as a minister in the Advent Christian Church.
During his early years as a pastor, he served Advent Christian Churches in Erwin, Garner, Potters Hill, and Spring Lake, all in North Carolina. He then served as pastor of the Bethlehem Advent Christian Church in Augusta, GA and in South Carolina at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church and Savannah Advent Christian Church. After his "retirement" to his family home near Benson, NC, he continued to serve as the pastor of the Smithfield Advent Christian Church in Smithfield, NC, for several years. At the time of his death, he was a member of Stone's Creek Advent Christian Church, in Benson, NC.
He was married to Frances Ryals Adams and has three children: Connie Adams, of Four Oaks, NC, James Edward (Eddie) Adams, of Snow Hill, NC, and Brian Adams of Charleston, SC. He has a sister, Annie Surles, who lives in Dunn, NC, and a brother, John D. Adams who lives in Garner, NC. He has two grandchildren (Eddie Jr. and Lisa Jo Adams Padgett) and two beautiful great-grandchildren (Maddy Jo Adams and Olivia Grace Padgett).
