Ruth Jean McKenzie, born February 16, 1904 in Ellensburg to Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Barnhart, died July 31, 1999 in Seattle. Ruth graduated from Central Washington College and taught in a one room school house in he Nanum. On June 29, 1926, she married Charles Maxfield McKenzie. In 1932, they moved to Yakima where Ruth was an active member of the First Christian Church, serving as Superintendent of the Cradle Roll for seventeen years, was a deaconess, and held the office of secretary, vice president and president of the Christian Women's Fellowship. In 1985, she and her husband moved to a retirement facility in Edmonds. In 1986 they celebrated their 60h wedding anniversary.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters; five brothers; her husband, Max and infant son, David. She is survived by her son, Donald (Erika) of Rowlett, Texas; son, Charles (Marilyn) of Seattle; seven grandchildren; Terrie Preskitt of Garland, Texas; Laurie Tipton of Rowlett, Texas; Don McKenzie, Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas; Marty Frye of Englewood, Colorado; Mary McKenzie of Seattle; Ross McKenzie of Ventura, California, and eight great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held in Ellensburg at the International Order of Odd Fellow Cemetery on Saturday, August 14 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Maynard Atik of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church of Seattle officiating.
