second wife of Montreville Weaver Black. Mother of Lucius Landon Black (1868-1946) and Thomasina Cynthia Black (1876. See more details under Montreville Weaver Black

Her Mother was Ann Edmonds (burial unknown). She and her sister Susannah Edmonds (the first wife of Montreville Black) were the illegitimate children of Thomas Osborne Roberts and Ann Edmonds.

Mont, Susanna and Polly all lived together even before Susanna's death

Wiley P. Black b. Feb 1866, the 6th child of her sister (Susannah and Mont Black) "stayed in trouble alot in the Asheville area" and was given choice of "stay in NC and go to jail or go to TN" He moved to Knoxville. Per family lore, he was a bootlegger and owned bars on the Lexington Ave area of Asheville. Polly Edmonds (second wife of Montreville Black- and Wiley's Aunt) used to dance on the tables in his bar and was called "Polly Pop." This information comes from my father, Wilfred F Black (died in 2007) and he told these same stories on many occasions. There are also several newspaper accounts of Wiley's brushes with the law from the Asheville Citizen Times paper at that time. Wiley married Sophronia Elkins in 1888.
