William Henry was one of six sons born to Edna Anna Gephart. Edna had married John Thomas Fulmele in 1904 and had two sons with him: John Thomas and William Henry. When her husband John died in 1910, she was on her own with two boys. She soon met Robert Louis Forsythe who she married in 1912. Robert adopted her two boys but William Henry was the only one of the two who had a good relationship with him and took on the Forsythe name. His brother John kept the Fulmele name and went his own way.

Like his step-father Robert, William worked at the Philadelphia Ship Yard. He worked as a sheet metal worker. He never married and sadly developed Weber Christian disease and cancer that led to his early death in 1949. He was especially close to his step-brother Robert.
