OCALA- - Kenneth Cassens, 79, vice president of an insurance and investment company, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Estelle's Hospice House. Mr. Cassens was a native of Edwardsville, IL, and came here from LeRoy, IL, in 1985. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Mr.Cassens was a member of 18 Holes Men's Golf Association, Ocala West United Methodist Church and Lions Club of Ocala, and was vice president of the 379th Bomb Group. He was master of ceremonies at many functions in On Top of the World and served on school and hospital boards in Illinois.

Surviors include his wife of 57 years, Geraldine Cassens, Ocala; son, ... Cassens, Dallas; and daughter, ... Cassens, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Hospice of Marion County or the Ocala West United Methodist Mortgage Fund."

Ken was a bombardier in the 526th Squadron and authored the book Screwball Express. He served nine years as a member of the Association's Board of Directors; was Chairman of the 379th Monument project for the Memorial Gardens at the 8th Air Force Heritage Museum; served as 2nd and Ist Vice President of the Association; was the Association's "copyright consultant" and most recently was the co-editor of the 379th Anthology.
