Mother: Josephine Fox
Wife #1: Gilly Johnson
Wife #2: Hannah Tygart
Wife #3: Ardena Allensworth
Son: Emsley Crabtree Montgomery
His father, Charles Francis Montgomery (#96), died shortly before he was born. Charles Francis and his wife, Josephine, were members of a wagon train heading toward Kentucky from Pennsylvania. The train encountered Indians and Charles was wounded in the shoulder by an Indian arrow. Then, while crossing the Ohio River near what is now Maysville, one of his oxen drowned. He dove into the river, rode one of the other oxen to shore--guiding the wagon across the river. Three days later, he died of pneumonia and perhaps from complications of the arrow wound which had not healed properly.
His mother was Josephine Fox (#97). She gave birth to Charles Fox Montgomery 6 weeks after Charles Francis' death. Josephine died when he was a small child and he went to live with a family named Clark until he was 11 when he was apprenticed out to a blacksmith to learn the trade.
Charles had no known brothers or sisters.
Charles and Ardena moved to Missouri from Christian County, Kentucky, around 1840
