Marguerite Virginia Kennedy Young went to be with her heavenly Father, husband, brother and parents on Jan. 4, 2012. She was 91.

Born on May 3, 1920, at home in the Goods Mill area, she was the daughter of the late Mabel Frances Bowman and George Montgomery Kennedy. She had one brother, Norman Bowman Kennedy, who preceded her in death.

Marguerite was united in marriage on Oct. 18, 1937, to Lerty Crawford Young, who passed away June 24, 1997.

Marguerite was a member of Mill Creek Church of the Brethren in Port Republic. She was a homemaker for a number of years after her marriage to Crawford. Her husband farmed, combined and thrashed for people, so she cooked homemade food for the farmhands. As her life went on, she worked at DuPont, in Grottoes, Sancar Corp., James Madison University and Bridgewater Drapery Shop.

After her husband became ill, she retired to give him all the tender loving care she could. She was a very loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Marguerite was a gracious and concerned lady and always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. She was a devoted believer in the Lord and prayed every night. No words can express how much we loved and appreciated her. There will be a hole in our hearts until we meet again in heaven. We will hold on to our precious memories until we see the brightest, most beautiful angel, at heaven's gate, just waiting to welcome her family home.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara Y. Ervin and husband, Leon, and Gloria Kay Garrison and husband, Donald, all of McGaheysville; three grandsons, Michael Greenlaw and wife, Amy, of Barrington, N.H., Steven Greenlaw and wife, Maria, of South Hampton, N.Y., and Jeffrey Ervin and companion, Tedra, of Elkton; one stepgranddaughter, Cindy Freilich; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Dylan Greenlaw of Barringont, N.H.; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Matthew Foster, Danielle Foster and Marissa Freilich. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Marlene Kennedy of Newport News, Va., and Kathryn Young of Verona; and one surviving nephew, David Kennedy.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Friday evening at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg or anytime at her daughter, Gloria's home.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor A. Lee Kinsey officiating. The interment will be private at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grottoes Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1187 Grottoes, VA 24441.
