Eva B. Adkison, known and loved by many as "Gaggi," peacefully went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by her family at home on Dec. 21, 2011.
She was born on March 5, 1931, to Ethel Edgar Powell and Arthur Powell of Opp, Ala., and became a resident of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., following her marriage to Hubert Adkison in 1946. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach, and found great joy in witnessing for Christ. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing, and especially loved cooking for her family.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Edgar and Arthur Powell; three brothers, Grover, John and Clarence Powell; and three sisters, Myrtle Harper, Clara Miller and Osie Grantham. She is survived by two daughters, Sue Abrahamsen and Wanda Howard; five grandchildren, Theresa Barrow, Sheila Broughton, Eva M. Abrahamsen, Melissa Thompson and Justin Howard; three great-grandchildren, William "Lee" Dunnam, Ashley Brewster and Chelsea Lanier; and one great-great-grandson, Waylon Brewster.
A funeral service for Eva will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Calvary Baptist Church, 529 Clifford St., Fort Walton Beach, with Pastor Mark Stevens and the Rev. Frank Abrahamsen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lime Springs Cemetery in Samson, Ala., where Eva will be laid to final rest.
