Mays Graveyard is listed as place of burial on Alford's Death Cert. I have found no evidence of him being anywhere else. Alford was a preacher, and his 2nd wife Nancy Yates lived in Powell Valley, so it all makes sense, he probably was the pastor at the church that is no longer here. So, no surprise he would be buried here.
