Peabody Firefighter James M. Rice, 42, beloved husband of Amy (Goldsworthy) Rice, died heroically while battling a fire at Hancock Street in Peabody on Friday December 23, 2011. Born in Saugus, he was the son of Brian MacKenna-Rice and Elaine (Morfis) Rice. He grew up in Peabody where he attended local schools. He graduated from St. John's Prep, Class of 1987, then earned a degree in Marketing from Bentley College. Mr. Rice was employed with BayBank and subsequently BankBoston. He later changed careers and devoted his life to community service with the City of Peabody Fire Department for 11 years. Jim is fondly remembered as a person with a very giving spirit and always with a smile upon his face. He enjoyed all sports, and played football and baseball at St. John's Prep. His greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends. He served as Treasurer with the Peabody Firefighter's Relief Association. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Amy (Goldsworthy) Rice, three children, his parents; his brother, and other family and friends.
