Owen F. "Flukie" Shifflett, 82, of Elkton, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 21, 2011.

Mr. Shifflett was born May 9, 1929, in the East Point area of Rockingham County, and was the son of the late John W. and Matilda Lam Shifflett. He was a member of the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle near Elkton, and enjoyed church and spending time with children and grandchildren. Owen was part of the Elkton High School's first football team in 1948, scoring the team's first touchdown. He also played baseball for the Elks and later with the Valley Leagues Elkton Blue Sox. He served our country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from McQuay.

On Aug. 20, 1956, he married Carolyn June Smith Shifflett, who survives.

Also surviving are sons, Richard O. Shifflett, Elkton, Keith W. Shifflett, Shenandoah, Terry E. Shifflett, Grottoes; daughters, Vicky L. Vergara, Tammy J. Rice, Carolyn S. Huffman and Crystal M. Weaver all of Grottoes; brothers, Lloyd E. "Blackie' Shifflett, Oklen "Red" Shifflett, both of Elkton; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Stewart, Winston, Austin, Johnny, and his twin, Lowen "Flukie" Shifflett; sisters, Myrtie Morris and Alma Shifflett.

The Revs. Ronald Spencer and Homer Frazier will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle near Elkton. Burial will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. The family will receive friends Monday evening 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
