Nannie's mother, Willie Farmer Darnell died when she was only 11 months old, and she was only 6 years old when her father, Lawrence Darnell died. She, along with her sister, Evelyn, went to live with her older brothers. Nan lived in Greenville, SC most of her adult life; however, she was living in the upper Pickens County, SC area when she died. Nan was a tall beautiful person. Her radience and strong, vibrant, dark complexion set her apart from anyone else. The extremely high cheekbones made her a great beauty. Her death at age 39 was a great loss and shock to all who knew her.
